Football Recap: Mullen Drops Season-High Score on Vista PEAK Prep

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mullen). They blew past the Vista PEAK Prep Bison 40-14 on Friday. With the Mustangs ahead 21-0 at the half, the game was all but over already.

Dante Dupuch continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 141 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 carries. Mullen is 2-1 when Dupuch posts two or more rushing touchdowns, but 0-3 otherwise. Kevin Lewis also deserves a mention for his punt return touchdown.

Mullen didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Vista PEAK Prep to a completion percentage of just 43.5%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from four players: Kingston Salazar-Mangrum, Mason Bonner, Koa Dietrich, and Lewis, who each logged one passes deflected. Mullen wasn't nearly as limited: they posted one of 57.9%.

Vista PEAK Prep's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Isaiah Watson, who picked up 148 receiving yards and a pair of scores, and Canaan Barthlow, who threw for 167 yards and two TDs. Watson really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 70 yards.

The victory snapped Mullen's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 2-4 record. As for Vista PEAK Prep, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-3.
