Baseball Game Preview: Windsor Jaguars vs. Cardinal Newman Cardinals

A feisty cat fight will be fought as Windsor Jaguars face off against Cardinal Newman Cardinals at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Windsor will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

Windsor's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They came out on top against Ukiah by a score of 5-0. While the Jaguars didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-11-1), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

AJ Rakowski tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over six innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Roman Torres was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. He also put up two RBI, which were his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Jaydon Metzger, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Saturday just wasn't the day for Cardinal Newman's offense. They came up short against Elk Grove on Saturday, falling 6-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Cardinals have suffered since February 21, 2024.

Josh Jannicelli was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk).

On the hitting side, Cardinal Newman saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jack Jacobs, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base.

Cardinal Newman now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Windsor, their victory bumped their record up to 6-3.

Windsor couldn't quite finish off Cardinal Newman in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 and fell 2-0. Can Windsor avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
