Basketball Game Preview: Doral Academy Firebirds vs. Palmetto Panthers

The Doral Academy Firebirds will square off against the Palmetto Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Doral Academy is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.

Doral Academy is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They blew past Miami 67-47. The Firebirds have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight games by 20 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Palmetto ended up a good deal behind Ferguson on Friday and lost 53-35. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 280th, while the Falcons are ranked 113th).

Doral Academy will have to contain Alessandra Falcon as she made an impact in Palmetto's last game. She dropped a double-double with 13 points and 16 rebounds. That was a full 37.1% of Palmetto's points, marking the third time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points.

Palmetto now has a losing record at 7-8. As for Doral Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 18-7.

Doral Academy was able to grind out a solid win over Palmetto when the teams last played back in February of 2022, winning 56-43. Will Doral Academy repeat their success, or does Palmetto have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
