Marysville Getchell had lost five straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 7-10 to make it six. They fell 11-6 to the Stanwood Spartans. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against Stanwood this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-1 on April 2nd.
Elle Glover was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up six earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits. Glover was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Lilyana Balgos made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season.
As for Stanwood, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games.
Like Marysville Getchell, Stanwood also got a great game from a two-way player: Megan Stulc. On the mound, Stulc struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Meanwhile, Addison Anderson pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off five hits. Stulc has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Stulc got on base in all five of her plate appearances with two RBI, while Anderson fired off two home runs, four runs, and one stolen base while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Those four runs gave Anderson a new career-high.
In other batting news, Rubi Lopez was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Reagan Ryan, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Coming up, Marysville Getchell will be playing at home against Glacier Peak at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Marysville Getchell's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Grizzlies have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season. As for Stanwood, they will face off against Monroe at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Spartans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bearcats have averaged an impressive 9 runs per game this season.
