Baseball Recap: Pope John XXIII Takes Down St. Mary in a Playoff Battle

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Pope John XXIII had no problem doing just that on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over the St. Mary Gaels. Pope John XXIII has seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw St. Mary, too.

The win made it two in a row for Pope John XXIII and bumps their season record up to 10-11. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.5 runs across that stretch. As for St. Mary, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 18-12.

Coming up, Pope John XXIII will take on Morristown-Beard on Wednesday. The Crimson will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Pope John XXIII surely won't give up without a fight. St. Mary will be paying especially close attention to Pope John XXIII's match: after Pope John XXIII faces off against Mount Olive, they'll take on St. Mary again on Friday.
