Basketball Game Preview: Covington Catholic Colonels vs. Cooper Jaguars

Having just played yesterday, the Covington Catholic Colonels will head out on the road to face off against the Cooper Jaguars at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Covington Catholic knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 16 games -- so hopefully Cooper likes a good challenge.

On Tuesday, Covington Catholic blew past Newport Central Catholic, posting a 73-43 victory. The Colonels have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 20 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Cooper strolled past Ryle with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 63-49. Given the Jaguars' advantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 15th, while the Raiders are ranked 69th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Cooper's win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-4. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.5 points per game. As for Covington Catholic, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-2 record this season.

Covington Catholic came up short against Cooper in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, falling 65-55. Can Covington Catholic avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
