Softball Recap: Clayton Takes a Loss

Clayton had lost seven straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 6-13 to make it eight. They lost 15-0 to the Mora Rangers/Rangerettes. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Rangers/Rangerettes this season, with their most recent loss being a 27-10 defeat back in March.

As for Mora, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 games by seven runs or more this season.

For Mora's part, Justina Duran was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Duran has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sonrisa Martinez, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Jazzlyn Duran was another key player, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Mora beat Clayton by a score of 19-4 later that day.
