Baseball Recap: Southwood Comes Up Short

Southwood had lost 15 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 0-16 to make it 16. They came up short against the Huntington North Vikings, falling 10-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Knights of the 18-10 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2022.

Southwood saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Coan Holloway, who went 1-for-2 with one double.

As for Huntington North, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games.

On Huntington North's side, Brady Harris made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave Harris a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, James Linker was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Brodee Swaidner, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Looking ahead, Southwood will challenge Manchester at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Huntington North, they will take on Carroll at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Vikings are facing the Chargers at the right time seeing as the Chargers are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
