The Warriors were denied two possible milestones. They had won 48 straight games and one more victory would have been a new state record. They also could have become only the second Wisconsin team to capture four consecutive state titles.
Homestead, which has won three Division I state titles, handed the Warriors their first shutout in 92 games, dating back to 2005. Three times in the second half Homestead stopped Waunakee inside its 5-yard line with brilliant goal-line stands. The Warriors were held to just 57 yards on 28 rushes.

Regina (Iowa City, Iowa) won its 42nd consecutive game and the Class A state championship with a 35-14 victory over St. Albert (Council Bluffs, Iowa). The Regals made some major adjustments to snap a 14-14 halftime stalemate and complete a 14-0 campaign.
The Regals, who have won three titles in a row, yielded just two first downs and 37 yards and made three interceptions in the second half.
Regina quarterback Mark Ward passed for a title-game-record 297 yards, connecting on 17 of 25 and a pair of touchdowns. Mike Donovan set a title-game record with 125 receiving yards and tied the record with seven catches.

Bellevue (Wash.) put on another display of powerful offense and defense while routing Peninsula (Gig Harbor), 40-3 during the Class 3A state quarterfinals. It marked the 38th straight victory for the Wolverines, who just missed their fourth straight shutout.
Peninsula coach Ross Filkins told the Seattle Times, "Everybody talks about their offense, but I tell you what, you ask any coach who played these guys, they said this defense is one of the best this state has ever seen."
*Hornell (N.Y.) ran its winning streak to 51 games with a 20-7 victory over previously unbeaten Chenango Forks (Binghamton) during the Class C state semifinals. Zack Bacon set the pace by rushing for 152 yards, 130 in the second half.
