Preview: Thornridge Falcons vs. Thornwood Thunderbirds
Thornridge is 1-8 against Thornwood since October of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Thornridge Falcons will head out on the road to face off against the Thornwood Thunderbirds at 6:00 p.m. The pair have had a bumpy ride up to this point with 17 consecutive losses dating back to last season for Thornridge and eight for Thornwood.
Thornridge fell victim to Rich Township's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They took a serious blow against the Raptors, falling 40-0. Thornridge was already down big by the end of the third quarter and they stayed that way after failing to score in the fourth.
Meanwhile, Thornwood suffered a rough 35-14 loss at the hands of Riverside-Brookfield on Friday. While losing is never fun, Thornwood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois football rankings (they are ranked 390th, while Riverside-Brookfield is ranked 188th).
Thornridge's defeat was their eighth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-8. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 1.5 points per game. As for Thornwood, their defeat also dropped their record down to 0-8.
Thornridge was dealt a bruising 42-0 loss at the hands of Thornwood in their previous matchup back in October of 2022. Thankfully for Thornridge, Avery Cochran (who threw for 118 yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
