Basketball Recap: Ord Drops Highest Score of Season Against O'neill

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Ord). They blew past the O'Neill Eagles 73-49 on Friday. For the Chanticleers, this counts as revenge for the 63-52 victory the Eagles walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Ord was led to victory by Landon Critel and Elijah Pollard. Critel went 7-for-10 on his way to 20 points, while Pollard dropped a double-double with 15 points and 11 boards. Those 20 points gave Critel a new career-high. Easton Ryschon also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steal of the season.

Ord smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Despite the loss, O'Neill still got an impressive performance from Turner Heiss, who almost dropped a double-double with 26 points and nine rebounds. Heiss is becoming a predictor of O'Neill's success: when he posts at least 20 points the team is 2-1 (and 7-11 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Porter Mathews, who posted six points.

Ord's win bumped their record up to 9-13. As for O'Neill, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 9-12.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ord will welcome Ravenna at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Ord is facing Ravenna at the right time seeing as Ravenna is stuck on a 15-game losing streak. As for O'Neill, they will face off against Battle Creek at 7:00 p.m. on February 21st. O'Neill will also cruise into their next game with the timing on their side: Battle Creek will have lost three straight heading into Friday's contest.
