Basketball Game Preview: Walsh Eagles vs. Holly Wildcats

The Walsh Eagles will venture away from home to square off against the Holly Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Walsh is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.

Walsh is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Boise City on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Walsh came up short against Boise City, falling 58-33.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Maribel Carrillo, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and ten rebounds. What's more, she also racked up three blocks, the most she's had since back in February of 2024. Ava Alley was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Even though they lost, Walsh smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in seven consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Holly was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a hard 45-28 fall against South Baca [Campo/Vilas/Pritchett].

Walsh's defeat dropped their record down to 5-10. As for Holly, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 5-10.

Walsh came up short against Holly in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, falling 32-21. Can Walsh avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
