Hunter is 0-9 against Bingham since May of 2015 but things could change on Wednesday. The Wolverines will head out to take on the Miners at 3:30 p.m. Hunter is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Hunter took a loss when they played away from home last Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They put the hurt on American Fork with a sharp 10-2 win.
LEILA AIONO spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on KENYA LAPUAHO, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. She also hit a triple, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was ALEXA OLSEN, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs.
Hunter was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .321 or higher in five consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Bingham faced Mountain Ridge in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Miners came out on top against the Sentinels by a score of 9-6. The victory continues a trend for the Miners in their matchups with the Sentinels: they've now won eight in a row.
Rian Howland was incredible, going 2-for-4 with five RBI and one double. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Brooklynn Fogg was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Hunter's record is now 9-13. As for Bingham, their record now sits at 15-7-3.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Hunter hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.9 home runs per game. However, it's not like Bingham struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Hunter might still be hurting after the 8-0 loss they got from Bingham in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Wolverines avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
