Baseball Game Preview: South Aiken Thoroughbreds vs. Gray Collegiate Academy War Eagles

The South Aiken Thoroughbreds will head out on the road to challenge the Gray Collegiate Academy War Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. South Aiken's hitters haven't had much luck over their past four matches, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

South Aiken's last matchup with Gilbert could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's contest on Friday. South Aiken came up short against Gilbert, falling 8-0.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Gray Collegiate Academy, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Aiken 3-2.

Zak Perry spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up six Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Garrett Blankenship, who scored three runs while going 2-for-4. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. MJ Hornsby was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Gray Collegiate Academy hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in five consecutive matchups.

Gray Collegiate Academy now has a winning record of 5-4. As for South Aiken, their loss dropped their record down to 1-6.
