Baseball Game Preview: Emmett Huskies vs. Bishop Kelly Knights

Emmett hasn't had much luck against Bishop Kelly recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. Emmett will head out on the road to face off against Bishop Kelly at 7:00 p.m.

Emmett is headed into Wednesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 14th straight game dating back to last season on Tuesday. They lost 7-1 to Skyview.

Cody Muffley was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.

On the hitting side, Emmett saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jackson Simonsen, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Ryder Scheibe also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Meanwhile, while Bishop Kelly put up some runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Caldwell. Bishop Kelly blew past Caldwell 7-0. Considering the Knights have won three contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

The result came thanks to Luca Quilici's shutout, as he gave up just two hits and racked up ten Ks. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (zero).

At the plate, Bishop Kelly let Colin Brazil and Sy Wong run wild. Brazil scored two runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4, while Wong went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those three stolen bases gave Brazil a new career-high. Cole Keck was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

The victory made it two in a row for Bishop Kelly and bumps their season record up to 3-7. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing ten hits in those games compared to only 5.38 in the others. As for Emmett, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-8.

Emmett suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Bishop Kelly in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Emmett avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
