Softball Recap: Shiprock Comes Up Short

Shiprock extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping them down to 5-8. They came up short against the Aztec Tigers, falling 14-0. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Chieftains were not able to get on the board.

As for Aztec, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games.

For Aztec's part, the team relied heavily on Kayci Phillips, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Those six RBI gave Phillips a new career-high. Sydney Lee was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two triples, two RBI, and one run.

Looking ahead, Shiprock will be taking part in a tournament against Zuni at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday. As for Aztec, they will host Miyamura at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Patriots have averaged an impressive 8.8 runs per game this season.
