Baseball Recap: Soledad Comes Up Short

If Soledad was feeling good fresh off their 7-1 takedown of North Salinas on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Aztecs came up short against the Monterey Toreadors on Wednesday, falling 8-1. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 8, 2025, but that streak is no more.

Soledad saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Juan Esparza, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple marked the first that Esparza has hit this season.

Soledad's defeat dropped their record down to 7-9-1. As for Monterey, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-7 record this season.

While Soledad had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
