Basketball Recap: Hampton County Hurricanes vs. Ridgeland-Hardeeville Jaguars
The Hampton County Hurricanes came tearing into Wednesday's contest with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.4 points) and they left with even more momentum. They strolled past Ridgeland-Hardeeville with points to spare, taking the game 60-46. Given Hampton County's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 55th, while the Jaguars are ranked 213th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Kavon Chisolm continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 11 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks. He is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games he's played. Ja'mere Martin was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Despite the loss, Ridgeland-Hardeeville still got an impressive performance from Poncie Capers, who scored 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of MJ Smith, who scored six points along with ten rebounds.
Even though they lost, Ridgeland-Hardeeville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Hampton County pushed their record up to 16-5 with that victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.2 points per game. As for Ridgeland-Hardeeville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-10.
Coincidentally, Hampton County and the Jaguars will both be playing the Wolverines the next time they take the court. Hampton County will host the Wolverines at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while the Jaguars will host them at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
