Softball Recap: Wayne County Comes Up Short

Wayne County was the 7-6 winner over Vancleave when they last played one another on Tuesday, but their luck changed this time around. The War EaglesLady War Eagles fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 2-1 on Thursday.

Wayne County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gracie Swindle, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double. Olivia Sims also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Wayne County has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last 12 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season. As for Vancleave, they moved to 12-12 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Coming up, Wayne County will look to defend their home field on Saturday against West Marion at 12:30 p.m. The Trojans' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the War EaglesLady War Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Vancleave, they will head out on the road to square off against Purvis at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
