Baseball Recap: Cibola's Win Ends Three-Game Losing Streak on the Road

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Cibola walked away with it. They walked away with an 8-4 victory over the Carlsbad Cavemen/Cavegirls on Friday. For the Cougars, this counts as revenge for the 16-2 win the Cavemen/Cavegirls walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2024.

Austin Zapach spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Zach Wood, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Daniel Kean was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Cibola's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 16-11. As for Carlsbad, their loss ended a 14-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 21-6.

Cibola will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Cavemen/Cavegirls: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
