Softball Recap: Desert Vista Takes a Loss

Desert Vista entered their contest against Xavier College Prep on Thursday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Thunder came up short against the Gators, falling 11-5. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Thunder, who until this game were averaging 2.74 runs allowed.

Jaymie Larney made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Mckenzie Leitgen, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

This is the second loss in a row for Desert Vista and nudges their season record down to 15-4. As for Xavier College Prep, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5-3 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Desert Vista will venture away from home to take on Boulder Creek at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Thunder 2.7, the Jaguars 3.7) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Xavier College Prep, they are taking a road trip to challenge Millennium at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. The Gators are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
