Softball Game Preview: Olympia Bears vs. Rogers Rams

The Olympia Bears will challenge the Rogers Rams at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Neither Olympia nor Rogers posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Olympia easily dispatched Curtis on Monday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Bears fell just short of Puyallup by a score of 4-2 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Bears have suffered since May 25, 2024.

Olympia saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brooklyn Crass, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Rogers came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with ten straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Tornados get on the board and left with a 1-0 win. Those one runs were actually the fewest the Rams have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

The result came thanks to Sierra Murray's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances.

Rogers pushed their record up to 12-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Olympia, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-6.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Olympia hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1 home runs per game. However, it's not like Rogers struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
