Basketball Recap: Jayla Ayler Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Lakeside

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Greenbrier ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They had just enough and edged the Lakeside Panthers out 63-60. This was a revenge game for the Wolfpack: when they faced off against the Panthers last Tuesday, they had to take a 57-29 defeat.

Greenbrier's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jayla Ayler led the charge by putting up 18 points and five boards. Another player making a difference was Alayna Tamez, who went 5 of 11 on her way to 14 points and eight rebounds.

When it comes to explaining why Lakeside lost, don't look at Kobi Barnes. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 32 points and 12 boards. Barnes' evening made it six games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Emma Hughes was another key player, going 5 for 12 en route to 15 points.

Greenbrier's record is now 7-13. As for Lakeside, their loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 8-7.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Evans the next time they take the court. Lakeside will head out to face Evans at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, while Greenbrier will head out to face them at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
