Softball Preview: Margaretta Polar Bears vs. Woodmore Wildcats

After three games on the road, Margaretta is heading back home. They will take on the Woodmore Wildcats at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. The last four games Margaretta has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

On Wednesday, it was close, but Margaretta sidestepped Port Clinton for a 5-3 victory.

Cassie Lane and Skylar Colvin made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Lane tossed an inning while giving up no earned runs or hits (she also only allowed one walk). Meanwhile, Colvin struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive pitching appearances. At the plate, Lane went 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs, while Colvin scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Lilly Edwards was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, a double, and an RBI.

Meanwhile, Woodmore got themselves on the board against Port Clinton on Saturday, but Port Clinton never followed suit. They came out on top against the Redskins by a score of 3-0. The win was just what Woodmore needed coming off of a 12-0 defeat in their prior matchup.

Margaretta's victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-4. As for Woodmore, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.

Everything went Margaretta's way against Woodmore in their previous matchup back in April of 2022 as Margaretta made off with an 11-1 victory. Does Margaretta have another victory up their sleeve, or will Woodmore turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
