Basketball Recap: Wayne's Loss Ends Six-Game Winning Streak on the Road

Wayne was the 61-35 winner over Duchesne when they last played one another back in December of 2016, but their luck changed this time around. The Wayne Badgers fell 51-38 to the Duchesne Eagles on Friday.

Despite the defeat, Wayne saw an underclassman step up: sophomore AJ VanDyke posted 19 points and five rebounds. VanDyke's evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Raegyn Blackburn, who earned seven points.

Duchesne's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kira Grant, who went 8 of 15 on her way to 19 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Grant has scored at least a third of Duchesne's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Chezney Farnsworth, who had 12 points and six rebounds.

Wayne's loss ended a six-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 8-2. As for Duchesne, they now have a winning record of 6-5.

Wayne wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 60-57 defeat against Tabiona on the 28th. As for Duchesne, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 44-26 victory against Panguitch on the 28th.
