Football Recap: Basalt Longhorns vs. Arvada Bulldogs
Basalt took care of business in their home opener on Saturday (and then some). They blew past the Arvada Bulldogs, posting a 40-8 victory at home. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 27-0.
Will Daniel had a dynamite game for Basalt, rushing for 242 yards and three touchdowns on only 14 carries. Daniel really tore up the turf during one magnificent 82-yard run. Taylor Hays was another key player, gaining 99 total yards and two touchdowns.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Basalt's defense and their three sacks. Leading the way was Owen Lindt and his two. He also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, picking up two sacks, making two total tackles (2.0 for loss), and defending a pass.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Basalt was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 313 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Arvada only rushed for 95.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Basalt will have plenty of time to enjoy the win as they don't play again for a while. They'll take on Rifle at 7:00 p.m. on September 6th. Basalt is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road dating back to last season. As for Arvada, they will square off against Mitchell at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
