Softball Game Preview: North Pitt Panthers vs. SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars

A feisty cat fight will be fought as North Pitt Panthers challenge SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. North Pitt has given up an average of 13.5 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

North Pitt is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 22 runs last Thursday, they were much more limited against Nash Central on Wednesday. They lost 11-1 to the Bulldogs.

Meanwhile, SouthWest Edgecombe had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They never let the Rams get on the board and left with a 17-0 victory. Give the Cougars' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.

Mackenzie Moore was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February of 2024. Deniya Mayo was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.

Moore wasn't the only one working in the hit department: SouthWest Edgecombe kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive games.

SouthWest Edgecombe now has a winning record of 4-3. As for North Pitt, their loss dropped their record down to 2-8.

North Pitt suffered a grim 15-0 defeat to SouthWest Edgecombe when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can North Pitt avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
