Baseball Game Preview: Columbus Discoverers vs. Norris Titans

Columbus is 2-8 against Norris since April of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Discoverers are taking a road trip to take on the Titans at 4:30 p.m.

Monday just wasn't the day for Columbus' offense. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Kearney on Monday. The Discoverers just can't catch a break and have now endured five losses in a row.

Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last matchup, Norris made sure to put some runs up on the board against Lincoln Northwest on Tuesday. The Titans put the hurt on the Falcons with a sharp 10-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Titans, who have now won five contests by eight runs or more so far this season.

Norris got a great performance from Anden Papik as he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). Papik has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Norris let Tanner Klein and Jordan Monroe run wild. Klein scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5, while Monroe scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Bryce Fountain, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Norris was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lincoln Northwest only posted a batting average of .160.

Norris pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Columbus, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-6.

Columbus came up short against Norris in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, falling 5-2. Can the Discoverers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
