Basketball Recap: Richland Northeast Takes a Loss

Richland Northeast lost against York back in February of 2020 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Richland Northeast Cavaliers took a 56-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the York Cougars. The Cavaliers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Richland Northeast saw an underclassman step up: freshman Reece Jackson went 6 of 8 on his way to 17 points. Those 17 points set a new season-high mark for Jackson. Another player making a difference was Damarcus Haliburton, who posted ten points.

York's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Malikai Dawkins, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds. Dawkins is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Smith, who had 13 points and three steals.

Richland Northeast's defeat dropped their record down to 4-15. As for York, their win ended a 14-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-15.

Richland Northeast wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 51-45 loss against Camden on the 25th. As for York, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 71-48 defeat against Dreher on the 24th.
