Basketball Game Preview: Northwest Jaguars vs. Clarksburg Coyotes

Northwest and Clarksburg are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2020, but not for long. The Northwest Jaguars will be playing at home against the Clarksburg Coyotes at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Northwest is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 65.2 points per game this season.

Last Tuesday, Northwest narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Seneca Valley 44-41.

Northwest's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Alexander Greenfield, who posted eight points along with 12 boards and three blocks. That's the most rebounds Greenfield has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Eddison Floyd, who went 5 for 8 on his way to 11 points and eight boards.

Northwest smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 18 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Clarksburg was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were beaten by Whitman 84-45. While losing is never fun, the Coyotes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 260th, while the Vikings are ranked 48th).

Northwest has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. As for Clarksburg, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-13.

Everything came up roses for Northwest against Clarksburg when the teams last played back in January, as the team secured an 85-56 victory. Does Northwest have another victory up their sleeve, or will Clarksburg turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
