Softball Recap: New Iberia Victorious

New Iberia posted their closest win since March 27, 2025 on Tuesday. They skirted past the Mamou Demons 13-11. The Yellowjackets haven't had any issues with the Demons recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Evie Sherville looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, New Iberia let Palyn Freeman and Shaylee Gibson run wild. Freeman got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base, while Gibson went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Those three RBI gave Freeman a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Addison Olivier, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and two doubles.

New Iberia was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

New Iberia picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 2-5. As for Mamou, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. New Iberia will take on Highland Baptist Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Mamou, they will square off against Lafayette at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Demons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lions have averaged an impressive 15.6 runs per game this season.
