Softball Preview: Marathon Dolphins vs. Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart Cyclones

The Marathon Dolphins will take on the Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart Cyclones at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Last Tuesday, Marathon made easy work of Immaculata-La Salle and carried off a 20-4 victory. The Dolphins haven't had any issues with the Royal Lions recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Sara Robinson made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed two innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-low in walks (two). She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Marathon got a massive performance out of Shaina Robinson, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with five RBI, three runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Elena Eubank, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one triple.

Marathon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .611. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart won against Lourdes Academy on Monday with 11 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Wednesday. Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart never let Immaculata-La Salle get on the board and left with an 11-0 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cyclones.

Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart also got a great performance from Madelyn Althage as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Althage has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Veronica Franzino was a standout: she scored two runs while going 1-for-3. She has been hot recently, having also posted three or more RBI the last three times she's played. Allyson Wolfson was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
