Basketball Recap: Fullington Academy's Win on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Fullington Academy had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.3 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Thursday. They enjoyed a cozy 49-33 victory over the Briarwood Academy Buccaneers.

Fullington Academy had a senior duo take command as Kathryn Akin dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 boards and Jaye Beth Womble posted 23 points and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Beth Womble has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Caroline Stevens, who put up eight points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

Fullington Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 12 consecutive matches.

Briarwood Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Macie Rabun, who had nine points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Hensley Vann, who posted six points and four steals.

Fullington Academy is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. As for Briarwood Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 6-3.

Fullington Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 64-50 win against St. George's on the 3rd. As for Briarwood Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 41-35 victory against David Emanuel Academy on the 3rd.
