Football Game Preview: Rogers Pirates vs. Elkmont Red Devils

Rogers has gone a perfect 3-0 against Elkmont recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Pirates will be playing in front of their home fans against the Red Devils at 7:00 p.m. Rogers has given up an average of 31.2 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Rogers made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Lauderdale County, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Pirates fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 39-37 on Friday. The Pirates haven't had much luck with the Tigers recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Rogers might have lost, but man, C.J. Davis was a machine: he rushed for 103 yards and two scores, and also threw for 229 yards and three touchdowns. Cole Marks was Davis' top target, picking up 100 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.

Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 72-19, which was the final score in Elkmont's tilt against Colbert County on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Red Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama football rankings (they are ranked 368th, while the Indians are ranked 177th).

Despite the defeat, Elkmont saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Cooper Wales picked up 135 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. Wales got the majority of those receiving yards when he pulled down a pass and took off for a gain of 71 yards.

Elkmont's loss dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Rogers, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.

Everything came up roses for Rogers against Elkmont in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 35-8 victory. Will the Pirates repeat their success, or do the Red Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
