Basketball Recap: Benson Bunnies vs. Bellevue West Thunderbirds
Benson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a blow against the Bellevue West Thunderbirds, falling 80-47. While losing is never fun, the Bunnies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 133rd, while the Thunderbirds are ranked 15th).
Benson lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Goanar Bamach, who went 5-for-10 en route to 16 points in addition to five boards and five blocks. That was a full 34% of Benson's points, marking the third time in a row Bamach has posted more than a third of the team's points. Antonio Carson Jr. was another key player, putting up 14 points.
Bellevue West found their leader in sophomore Bryce Johnson Jr, who went 10-for-20 on his way to 26 points along with six assists and six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Johnson Jr has scored all season. Pierce Parker also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.
Benson's defeat dropped their record down to 9-15. As for Bellevue West, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season.
As of now, neither Benson nor Bellevue West have any future games scheduled.
