Former Chicago Bears linebacker great and former head coach of the San Francisco 49ers Mike Singletary was announced Thursday as the head coach at Trinity Christian (Addison).

Deion Sanders is the head coach at Trinity Christian (Cedar Hill).

Singletary takes over a team that went 2-10 last season.

"It's an honor for me to join the TCA family," Singletary said in a press release, "I welcome the opportunity to get to know the young men who are part of the football team, as well as the faculty, staff and parents. I have a soft spot in my heart for young men, and it's my desire to help them develop into all that God created them to be through football and beyond."

Singletary was considered a top candidate for the Southlake Carroll (Texas) program that hired former star quarterback Riley Dodge this week.

TCA was thrilled Southlake passed on Singletary, who is also supposed to be linked to the new Alliance of American Football league that is scheduled to open in 2019.

Said athletic director Kirk McJunkin in a release: "Mike Singletary is a multi-talented and energetic individual with other opportunities, including coaching a potential 'spring league' at the professional level that is currently forming, and we recognize that the length of his tenure as TCA's head football coach is unknown. As such, we are excited to have Coach Mercer (defensive coordinator) serve in his new role to ensure continuity in our program as the future unfolds."
