Softball Recap: Rhea County Has No Trouble Against Rockwood

Rhea County got themselves on the board against Rockwood on Monday, but Rockwood never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 12-0 margin over the Tigers. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Golden Eagles' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Allie Shaver was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brook Tallent, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Hailee Kosek was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Rhea County's victory bumped their record up to 10-11. As for Rockwood, their defeat was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-16.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rhea County will head out to face off against Bledsoe County at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Warriors will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Golden Eagles surely won't give up without a fight. As for Rockwood, they will face off against Oak Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers are facing the Wildcats at the right time seeing as the Wildcats are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
