Basketball Game Preview: Exeter Monarchs vs. Mt. Whitney Pioneers

The Exeter Monarchs will take on the Mt. Whitney Pioneers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The timing is sure in Exeter's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while Mt. Whitney has been banged up by 11 consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.

While Exeter didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They walked away with a 47-35 win over Sierra last Saturday. The 47-point effort marked the Monarchs' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Exeter's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Blaine Mcfall led the charge by putting up 12 points along with eight rebounds and seven blocks. Mcfall has been hot, having posted eight or more boards the last six times he's played. Cadon Hughes was another key player, posting nine points and three steals.

Meanwhile, Mt. Whitney scored the most points they've had this season on Saturday, but it wasn't enough. They fell 66-57 to Golden West. The Pioneers were down 55-29 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Mt. Whitney's defeat dropped their record down to 2-14. As for Exeter, their victory bumped their record up to 10-1.

Exeter beat Mt. Whitney 51-39 in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. Will Exeter repeat their success, or does Mt. Whitney have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
