Basketball Recap: Huntington Takes a Loss

If Huntington was riding high fresh off their 48-25 takedown of Newton last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Huntington Red Devils lost 68-43 to the Pollok Central Bulldogs on Friday. The loss continues a trend for the Red Devils in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now lost six in a row.

Pollok Central got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jake Matthews out in front who went 7 of 9 to rack up 17 points in addition to six steals and five rebounds. Matthews has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last eight times he's played. Another player making a difference was Law Shaver, who went 7 for 11 on his way to 17 points.

Huntington's defeat dropped their record down to 12-22. As for Pollok Central, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 21-10.

Looking ahead, Huntington will challenge Pineywoods Community Academy at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Pollok Central, they will take on Diboll at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
