Baseball Game Preview: Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate Phoenix vs. Calvary Christian Warriors

Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate hasn't had much luck against Calvary Christian recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate will square off against Calvary Christian at 7:00 p.m. Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate has given up an average of 10.1 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate lost 15-5 to Tampa Catholic on Tuesday. The Phoenix have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aiden Brown, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one RBI. What's more, Brown posted two hits, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. DJ Valley also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Calvary Christian had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.4 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Tuesday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Terrapins. The two-run effort marked the Warriors' lowest-scoring match of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Grayson Gibson tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over 7.1 innings pitched. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in May of 2024.

Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate's defeat dropped their record down to 1-15. As for Calvary Christian, their record now sits at 17-1.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Calvary Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 11.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate might still be hurting after the 20-1 loss they got from Calvary Christian when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Can Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
