Baseball Recap: Detroit Community Takes a Loss

Detroit Community extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 12 on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 0-5 in the process. They lost 9-3 to the Chandler Park Academy Eagles. If the Hurricanes were looking for revenge after losing 7-1 to the Eagles when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Chandler Park Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games.

For Chandler Park Academy's part, Jayden Lawson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off one hit. Lawson was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Chandler Park Academy: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 0-3 otherwise.

In other batting news, Codee Turner was incredible, going a perfect 1-for-1 with six stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Chandler Park Academy is undefeated when Turner posts two or more stolen bases, but 1-3 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Montell Woods, who got on base in both of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.

Coming up, Detroit Community will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Lincoln-King Academy at 4:30 p.m. As for Chandler Park Academy, they will head out to take on University Prep at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
