Softball Recap: Newton Falls Comes Up Short

Newton Falls extended their losing streak to five on Tuesday, dropping them down to 3-8. They came up short against the Garfield G-Men, falling 11-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the G-Men this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 20-2 on Monday.

Kylee Lance and Calleigh Swiger did some serious damage despite the final result: Lance went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI, while Swiger went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run. That home run marked the first that Lance has launched this season. Madalyn Knight was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run.

As for Garfield, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-6. The result was nothing new for the G-Men, who have now won four contests by six runs or more so far this season.

On Garfield's side, the team relied heavily on Emily Knerem, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those three hits gave Knerem a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Diamond Dyson, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run.

Newton Falls wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, an 11-0 defeat against LaBrae on the 24th. As for Garfield, they have also already played their next game, an 18-2 win against Liberty on the 23rd.
