Recap: St. Mary's Knights vs. Seton Catholic Sentinels

The St. Mary's Knights lost against the Seton Catholic Sentinels two weeks ago, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The match between St. Mary's and Seton Catholic wasn't particularly close, with St. Mary's falling 64-49. St. Mary's has not had much luck with Seton Catholic recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.

St. Mary's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Alondra Reyes, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Reyes hasn't dropped below two steals for 14 straight games. Maddie Brittain was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six rebounds.

Seton Catholic's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sophie Morales led the charge by dropping a double-double on 14 points and 14 assists. Morales has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last six times she's played. Another player making a difference was Caitlyn M Benally, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds and four steals.

St. Mary's loss dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Seton Catholic, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season.

St. Mary's will be playing in front of their home fans against Saguaro at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Saguaro focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up six on Monday. As for Seton Catholic, they will head out on the road to take on Arcadia at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Arcadia will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings (they are ranked 191st, while Seton Catholic is ranked 13th).
