Recap: Union Cougars vs. South Summit Wildcats
The Union Cougars scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They snuck past South Summit with a 60-56 victory. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
When it comes to explaining why South Summit lost, one person who can't be blamed is Emma Broadbent. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 20 points and 20 rebounds. That was a full 35.7% of South Summit's points, marking the ninth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Mariah Bowen was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with six assists and five rebounds.
Union pushed their record up to 6-17 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.0 points per game. As for South Summit, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 14-9.
Union will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Juan Diego Catholic at 7:00 p.m. Union has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. South Summit will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Summit Academy at 7:00 p.m. on February 16th. Hopefully South Summit focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Thursday.
