Softball Recap: Carey Takes a Loss

Carey dropped their record down to 6-12 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 11-2 to the Monroeville Eagles. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Blue Devils of the 6-5 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

As for Monroeville, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 22-3. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 games by seven runs or more this season.

For Monroeville's part, Veanna Helmstetter spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits. Helmstetter has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 22 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Taryn Tyler was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Madison Reiber, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Coming up, Carey will challenge Buckeye Central at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Monroeville does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
