Rome Free Academy took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against New Hartford, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Black Knights came out on top in a nail-biter against the Spartans on Monday, sneaking past 5-4. The Black Knights' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Madison Safin was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Those runs marked the first that she scored this season. Haylee Bostwick was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Rome Free Academy hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as New Hartford struck out seven times.

The win got Rome Free Academy back to even at 2-2. As for New Hartford, they dropped their record down to 1-1 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season.
