Football Recap: Juan Gonzalez Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Berean Christian

Concord hadn't beaten Berean Christian on the road since April 10, 2021 but that history sure didn't bother them on Saturday. The Bears put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 35-14 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Bears have posted against the Eagles since September 27, 2019.

Concord's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Juan Gonzalez, who rushed for 121 yards and three touchdowns on only 14 carries, and also threw for 100 yards on nine of 19 attempts. That's the most rushing touchdowns Gonzalez has posted since back in August. Chris Dunn was another key rusher, rushing for 108 yards and one TD on only 15 carries.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Concord proved: they limited Berean Christian to a paltry 1.8 yards per carry. The team can thank Alonso Sanchez-Bliss for the heroic effort on defense: he. Concord didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 9.7.

When it comes to explaining why Berean Christian lost, don't look at Gabriel Andrucko. Despite the final result, he picked up 97 receiving yards and one score. Andrucko also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, forcing one fumble and making five total tackles.

The victory made it two in a row for Concord and bumps their season record up to 6-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 22 points in those games. As for Berean Christian, they now have a losing record of 4-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Concord will host Northgate at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bears will need to watch out since the Broncos have now posted at least 31 points in their last four games. As for Berean Christian, they will be playing at home against College Park at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
