Soccer Game Preview: Gilbert vs. Gray Collegiate Academy

The Gilbert Indians will head out on the road to take on the Gray Collegiate Academy War Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Gilbert has given up an average of 2.6 goals per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Gilbert is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to five goals on Thursday, they were much more limited against South Aiken on Friday. They came up short against the Thoroughbreds, falling 6-1. Gilbert were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 3-0.

Meanwhile, Gray Collegiate Academy entered their tilt with Fort Dorchester on Saturday with nine consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with ten. They were the clear victors by a 5-2 margin over the Patriots. The result was nothing new for Gray Collegiate Academy, who have now won eight games by three goals or more so far this season.

Their offense was hitting Fort Dorchester from everywhere, as five different players booted in a goal.

Gray Collegiate Academy pushed their record up to 13-2 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 31 goals over those six contests. As for Gilbert, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7-2 record this season.

Gilbert suffered a grim 5-1 defeat to Gray Collegiate Academy in their previous matchup back in February of 2020. Can the Indians avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
