Basketball Game Preview: Douglas Bearcats vs. Powell Panthers

Douglas is 9-1 against Powell since January of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Douglas Bearcats challenge Powell Panthers at 5:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Douglas is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Wyoming's top teams: Torrington, who was ranked ninth at the time (Douglas was ranked second). Douglas breezed past Torrington to the tune of 61-27 on Saturday. The victory was familiar territory for the Bearcats, who have now won 17 contests in a row.

It was another big night for Lauren Olsen, who went 8-for-16 on her way to 21 points along with six assists and six boards. Her big performance that afternoon made it 42 games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Jaden Meyer, who shot 42% from the field en route to 12 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

Meanwhile, Powell extended their postseason success on Friday against Worland. They were the clear victor by a 57-31 margin over the Warriors. The win continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won eight in a row.

Douglas pushed their record up to 24-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 24.7 points on average over those games. As for Powell, their win bumped their record up to 15-8.

Douglas strolled past Powell in their previous matchup back in December of 2024 by a score of 60-41. Will Douglas repeat their success, or does Powell have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
