Baseball Game Preview: Boulder Creek Jaguars vs. Desert Vista Thunder

The Boulder Creek Jaguars will venture away from home to square off against the Desert Vista Thunder at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. Boulder Creek is coming into the match on a six-game losing streak.

On Friday, Boulder Creek didn't have quite enough to beat Corona del Sol and fell 7-6.

Sal Montes was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Chase Gilmore, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Meanwhile, Desert Vista faced O'Connor in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Thunder came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 5-0. The game was the first time the Thunder have beaten the Eagles on their field since March 21, 2018.

Brock MacDonald and Hagen Haefs dominated on the mound. MacDonald didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched, while Haefs pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Hudson Droz, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Noah Gutierrez also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Desert Vista's record is now 17-9. As for Boulder Creek, their loss dropped their record down to 8-18.

Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Boulder Creek hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .320. However, it's not like Desert Vista struggles in that department as they've averaged .326. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Boulder Creek suffered a grim 16-1 defeat to Desert Vista in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can the Jaguars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
